Fans of the Star Wars universe can command their own troops and ships in the three game modes offered by Star Wars: Empire at War and its expansion, Forces of Corruption.
Skirmishes allow player to fight single battles in a traditional RTS styles, building their upgrades and units during the battle.
Galactic Conquest separates unit building from the actual battles, with players building troops on the galactic screen and moving them into position before fighting the actual battles with the units they have. Planets give bonuses and regular income when held, and there are alternative ways to attack or steal enemy credits.
Campaign mode functions similarly to Galactic Conquest, but portions of the map are added after completing story based objectives in line with the original trilogy.
Forces of Corruption added new units to both the Empire and the Rebellion as well as adding the Zann Consortium as a third faction.
